Travel Log Day 1

We left home at 7:30 am on Wednesday, which is an hour later than we wanted to leave, but that's ok, we're on vacation right!

The main thing that happened during the day is that Tommy didn't feel very well. By the time we got to Kansas he really did not feel well and even threw up a couple of times. So in Topeka, we stoped a Wal-Mart and got some travel sickness medicine, the problem was that he refused to take it. So he suffered the rest of the way to IA.

When we got into Nebraska we started seeing a lot of lightning as we were driving along. By the time we reached Auburn, a very tiny town, it started sprinkling and then the bottom dropped out and it poured! Luckily we were in Auburn and although small, they had a Sonic. We pulled in to park under the overhang to wait it out. This Sonic had both outdoor and indoor dining so Bill and Tommy went in to use the facilities and get some dinner while Sophie and I waited in the van with Jake who was sleeping. As we sat there it continued to rain very hard and then the sirens started going off. This is the point that I told Sophie we were going inside too, so we got Jake and went in. Later we learned that there was no tornado threat, it was a warning to people who were at the carnival down the road to take shelter. The wind was very high and as we drove by we saw that a lot of the tents at the carnival has blown over.

We finally arrived a Joe and Carol house at 9:30, 14 hours after we left home, and went strait to bed!
